How to itemise Minotaur and, more importantly, why each item earns its slot.

Overview

Why this build works on Minotaur

Minotaur relies on survivability to continuously cycle his crowd control and team healing. His passive, Rage Incarnate, provides defense manipulation whenever he applies control or heals allies. To maximize this, Minotaur needs durability to stay on the front line during major engagements. Minoan Fury makes him a lethal initiator, but entering the Enraged state leaves him exposed to enemy focus fire without proper defensive stats. Motivation Roar heavily benefits from healing amplification, while skills like Despair Stomp require him to be in close physical proximity. This build prioritizes early movement, anti-heal, physical mitigation, and enhanced sustain to keep Minotaur disrupting enemies continuously.

Item by item

Warrior Boots - Favor

Early

Finishing Warrior Boots - Favor early grants essential mobility to engage with Despair Stomp and roam between lanes. The Favor passive synergizes directly with Motivation Roar, providing a burst of extra healing to the lowest health ally whenever Minotaur heals. This allows Minotaur to sustain his team through early skirmishes around the Turtle while triggering Rage Incarnate to boost ally Hybrid Defense simultaneously.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Passive - Favor: Success

Dominance Ice is crucial for Minotaur as a frontline tank who must dive into the enemy team. Its Arctic Cold passive reduces nearby enemy Attack Speed, severely weakening physical attackers. Combined with the knockup from Despair Stomp and Minoan Fury, this item neutralizes physical threats while Minotaur reduces enemy Hybrid Defense via Rage Incarnate, giving his allies a massive advantage during direct combat.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Arctic Cold: Reduces the Attack Speed of nearby enemy heroes to 70% of normal.

Antique Cuirass enhances Minotaur physical durability when taking skill damage from physical threats. Its Deter passive reduces the attacker Physical Damage whenever Minotaur is hit by a skill. Since Minoan Fury requires him to channel ground smashes while control immune, taking reduced physical damage allows him to survive heavy frontline punishment and trigger Motivation Roar for sustained health recovery during long fights.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Deter: When hit by a skill, reduces the attacker's Physical Damage by 4% for 2s (this effect stacks up to 3 times).

Oracle

Core

Oracle is an essential item that directly amplifies Minotaur self-sustain and supportive capabilities. Its Bless passive increases received HP Regen and Shield effects. This dramatically boosts the healing output of Motivation Roar, especially when Minotaur is in the Enraged state and gaining Enraged Regen from incoming basic attacks. It allows Minotaur to rapidly replenish his health bar while maintaining frontline presence.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Bless: Received Shield and HP Regen effects are increased by 30%.

Athena's Shield

Situational

Athena's Shield protects Minotaur against high burst magic damage threats. Its Shield passive grants significant Magic Damage Reduction upon taking magic damage. When initiating with Minoan Fury, enemy mages will often attempt to focus Minotaur down. This item absorbs that magic burst, ensuring he survives the initial hit to knock enemies airborne and apply Rage Incarnate defense debuffs to the enemy backline.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Shield: Upon taking Magic Damage, gains 25% Magic Damage Reduction for 3s (applied before taking damage). Regains this effect 5s after leaving combat.

Immortality guarantees Minotaur a second chance in late-game teamfights around the Lord. The Immortal passive revives him shortly after death with a shield and health. Should Minotaur fall while channeling Minoan Fury or protecting allies with Despair Stomp, this resurrection lets him immediately follow up with Motivation Roar to heal himself and allies, continuing to disrupt the enemy team until victory.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Immortal: Revives 2.5s after death, gaining 16% Max HP and a 220-1200 shield (scales with level) that lasts 3s (210s cooldown).

Adapting the build

No build survives every draft. These are the situations where the order above should change.

When facing heavy physical burst damage and skill-reliant physical heroes

Prioritize completing Antique Cuirass immediately after Dominance Ice. This drastically cuts the physical damage output of skill-based physical threats using its Deter passive. It allows Minotaur to safely dive with Despair Stomp and Minoan Fury without risking early elimination before he can trigger Motivation Roar to recover health.

When the enemy team has high magic burst mages

Swap the purchase order to buy Athena's Shield before Oracle. The immediate Magic Damage Reduction from the Shield passive prevents magic burst from melting Minotaur when he initiates teamfights with Minoan Fury, allowing him to survive long enough to heal himself and allies using Motivation Roar.
