How to itemise Vexana and, more importantly, why each item earns its slot.

Overview

Why this build works on Vexana

Vexana relies on high magic scaling and consecutive spell usage to unleash heavy burst damage and crowd control. Her main strength lies in setting up area-of-effect terror and knockups using Deathly Grasp and Eternal Guard, followed by Cursed Blast. However, her aggressive spell rotation rapidly drains mana, and long cooldowns leave her vulnerable. This build solves Vexana's severe resource constraints and skill downtime while dramatically boosting her Magic Power. By enabling non-stop spell spamming and empowering her Eternal Guard with massive damage scaling, Vexana transforms from a slow utility mage into a relentless area-control tyrant who continuously detonates enemy teams with Nether Touch explosions.

Arcane Boots

Early

Arcane Boots provide immediate Magic Penetration during the laning phase to pierce base enemy defenses. This early offensive boost enhances the initial burst of Deathly Grasp and Cursed Blast, allowing Vexana to quickly clear minion waves and harass enemy mid laners effectively. The extra movement speed also helps her rotate safely to side lanes to initiate ganks using her crowd control, setting up early team victories.

Enchanted Talisman addresses Vexana's core weakness: continuous mana consumption and long skill downtime. The Mana Spring passive ensures she never runs out of mana while clearing waves or engaging in extended teamfights. Reduced skill cooldowns let Vexana frequently combine Deathly Grasp with Cursed Blast to set up targets, enabling her to constantly apply her Nether Touch passive across whole enemy teams throughout lengthy skirmishes.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Mana Spring: Regenerates 15% Max Mana every 10s.

Genius Wand amplifies Vexana's magic damage output by shredding enemy Magic Defense whenever she deals damage. Because Eternal Guard continuously attacks enemies in a large area, it easily triggers and maintains maximum stacks of this debuff. Reduced enemy defense makes the delayed explosion of Cursed Blast and the chain reaction from Nether Touch deal devastating burst damage during early-to-mid game skirmishes around objectives.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Magic: Dealing Magic Damage to enemy heroes will reduce their Magic Defense by 3-7 (scales with level) for 2s. Stacks up to 3 times.

Holy Crystal drastically amplifies Vexana's total Magic Power through its Mystery passive. This sudden surge in raw stats scales exceptionally well with Cursed Blast and Eternal Guard, as both abilities feature massive magic multipliers in their formulas. Once completed, Vexana gains game-changing burst potential, capable of instantly wiping out squishy enemy carries and turning full cluster fights around with a single well-placed ultimate.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Mystery: Gains 21%-35% extra Magic Power (scales with level).

Fleeting Time optimizes Vexana's teamfight presence by directly shaving time off her ultimate ability through the Timestream passive. Securing kills or assists immediately reduces the remaining cooldown of Eternal Guard. This allows Vexana to summon her giant knight multiple times in prolonged engagements or back-to-back skirmishes, maintaining constant frontline pressure, continuous area knockups, and reliable crowd control during critical late-game clashes.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Timestream: Hero kills or assists reduce the Ultimate's current cooldown by 30%.

Blood Wings provides maximum survivability and high magic power for the end game. The Guard passive grants Vexana a substantial protective shield based on her immense Magic Power, along with extra Movement Speed while active. This counteracts her low natural durability and poor mobility, protecting her from high-damage enemy assassins while she safely casts Deathly Grasp from the backline during critical Lord contests.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Guard: Gains a shield equal to 200% of Magic Power. The shield will regenerate 20s after being damaged, and grants 30 Movement Speed while it lasts.

Adapting the build

No build survives every draft. These are the situations where the order above should change.

When the enemy team features mobile heroes and frequent teamfights occur early

Rush Fleeting Time right after Enchanted Talisman instead of Genius Wand. This setup allows you to cast Eternal Guard far more frequently in early skirmishes. Frequent area knockups from your ultimate ensure your team can reliably lock down agile targets before they escape, trading armor reduction for crowd control availability.

When facing frontline tanks who stack early Magic Defense

Prioritize Genius Wand immediately after Arcane Boots before building Enchanted Talisman. Stripping away enemy Magic Defense early maximizes the heavy magic damage output of Cursed Blast and Eternal Guard, allowing Vexana to punch through durable frontliners during crucial early objective contests around the Turtle.

Item recommendations come from the game's own hero data. The explanations are AI-generated from Vexana's ability kit and the items' in-game passives, and are checked automatically against the item list — they never introduce an item the game does not recommend for this hero.
