How to itemise Ruby and, more importantly, why each item earns its slot.

Overview

Why this build works on Ruby

Ruby relies entirely on spamming her skills to survive and control fights. Her passive, Let's Dance!, converts her skill damage into massive HP recovery via Spell Vamp while granting mobility dashes and defense stacks after every cast. However, she suffers from initial cooldown constraints and requires sustained durability to stay in the fray. This build addresses those exact weaknesses by focusing on rapid skill usage, amplified healing, and defensive stacking. Items in this set empower her to weave basic attacks between skills like Be Good! and Don't Run, Wolf King!, ensuring she maintains maximum control while remaining nearly impossible to kill during prolonged team clashes.

Item by item

Magic Boots

Early

Magic Boots grant crucial early cooldown reduction, allowing Ruby to cast Be Good! more frequently during the laning phase. Higher skill frequency directly translates into more trigger opportunities for her passive, Let's Dance!. This extra mobility from passive dashes helps her reposition easily, avoid enemy skill shots, and stack extra physical and magic defense continuously during early trades in the EXP lane.

War Axe

Core

War Axe is a cornerstone offensive choice that grants scaling physical attack and additional Spell Vamp as fights drag on. Because Ruby constantly damages enemies with Don't Run, Wolf King! and her other abilities, she fully stacks this item quickly. The resulting True Damage and enhanced Spell Vamp significantly boost the raw recovery provided by Let's Dance!, allowing her to win extended duels effortlessly.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Fighting Spirit: Dealing damage grants 12 extra Physical Attack and 2% extra Spell Vamp per second for 4s, up to 6 stacks. Deal 10% extra True Damage according to Base Damage at full stacks.####[C8This effect is reduced to 50% for Marksmen, Mages, and Supports.]

Endless Battle integrates perfectly with Ruby's skill-dash gameplay loop. Casting I'm Offended! or her lower-cooldown skills primes her next basic attack to deal true damage. Since she naturally dashes toward or around targets after using skills via Let's Dance!, slipping in an enhanced basic attack becomes seamless. The added sustain and damage output turn her into a potent threat against tanky opponents.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Divine Justice: After casting a skill, the next Basic Attack within 3s deals 60% Physical Attack as extra True Damage (1.5s cooldown).

Haas' Claws

Situational

Haas' Claws provides extra critical strikes and attack speed bursts when crits connect. While Ruby's basic attacks do not trigger lifesteal due to Let's Dance!, the raw offensive stats elevate her overall damage output. The attack speed bonus speeds up her basic attack animations between skill casts, enabling smoother weaving of Divine Justice attacks from Endless Battle without interrupting her ability flow.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Frenzy: Critical strikes grant 20% Attack Speed for 2s.

Brute Force Breastplate reinforces Ruby's front-line presence. Dealing continuous damage with Be Good! builds stacks of physical attack, magic power, and movement speed. At full stacks, the gained crowd control duration reduction ensures Ruby spends less time stunned and more time dashing via Let's Dance!, allowing her to reliably land multi-target pulls with I'm Offended! during chaotic end-game teamfights.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Brute Force: Each second after dealing damage, gain 6 extra Physical Attack and Magic Power and 2% extra Movement Speed for 4s, up to 6 stacks. Gain 15% extra Control Duration Reduction at full stacks.

Oracle

Late

Oracle acts as the ultimate defensive force multiplier for Ruby's kit. Its passive increases all received shield and HP regeneration effects, directly boosting the healing output generated by her Spell Vamp on skill casts. When paired with the defense stacks from Let's Dance!, Oracle turns her into an unkillable disruptor who can absorb massive damage while setting up continuous crowd control.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Bless: Received Shield and HP Regen effects are increased by 30%.

Adapting the build

No build survives every draft. These are the situations where the order above should change.

Against heavy crowd control comps

Prioritise Brute Force Breastplate earlier in your build after completing your core attack items. The control duration reduction provided at full stacks prevents enemies from locking Ruby down, ensuring she can cast Don't Run, Wolf King! and dash freely with Let's Dance! to maintain her defensive stacks and high sustain.

When extra health recovery is desperately needed

Rush Oracle immediately after War Axe and Endless Battle. Boosting her HP regen effects magnifies the Spell Vamp output from Let's Dance! across all her area-of-effect skills. This allows Ruby to withstand heavy burst damage from enemy mages and sustain through entire teamfights around the Lord.
