How to itemise Leomord and, more importantly, why each item earns its slot.

Overview

Why this build works on Leomord

Leomord functions as a high-impact finisher and teamfight initiator who thrives when capitalizing on low-health targets through his passive, The Oath Keeper. Because his kit heavily relies on entering the fray with his ultimate, Phantom Steed, he requires a delicate balance of physical offense, spell sustain, and durability to survive sustained clashes. His skills, Momentum and Decimation Assault, require repeated casts to maintain control and stack damage during mounted engagements. This build addresses Leomord's initial vulnerability before mounting Barbiel while maximizing his execution potential, turning guaranteed critical strikes on low-health enemies into overwhelming physical damage and true damage to sweep late-game objective fights around the Turtle and Lord.

Build order

  1. 1 Warrior Boots
  2. 2 Bloodlust Axe
  3. 3 War Axe
  4. 4 Endless Battle
  5. 5 Blade of Despair
  6. 6 Immortality

Item by item

Warrior Boots provide essential early Physical Defense through the Valor passive whenever Leomord takes damage. This allows him to trade effectively in the EXP Lane while lining up Momentum and Decimation Assault against opposing physical fighters. The extra movement speed helps him position to meet Barbiel during Phantom Steed, preventing early death before achieving his mounted powerspike.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Valor: Gain 4 extra Physical Defense for 3s when taking Physical Damage, up to 20.

Bloodlust Axe

Early

Bloodlust Axe gives Leomord vital sustain during early lane skirmishes and multi-target clashes. Because Momentum hits multiple targets in a line and his mounted basic attacks deal wide area damage during Phantom Steed, the spell vamp restores significant health in the middle of teamfights. This keeps him healthy enough to hunt targets below half health and trigger The Oath Keeper.

War Axe

Core

War Axe synergizes smoothly with Leomord's extended fighting style in mounted form. Dealing damage stacks Fighting Spirit, granting extra Physical Attack and Spell Vamp over time, culminating in true damage. Combined with Momentum and sweeping mounted basic attacks, Leomord quickly reaches maximum stacks, granting him incredible sustained damage and lifesteal to dominate teamfights around major objectives.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Fighting Spirit: Dealing damage grants 12 extra Physical Attack and 2% extra Spell Vamp per second for 4s, up to 6 stacks. Deal 10% extra True Damage according to Base Damage at full stacks.####[C8This effect is reduced to 50% for Marksmen, Mages, and Supports.]

Endless Battle amplifies Leomord's burst capabilities after weaving skills with basic attacks. The Divine Justice passive adds True Damage to his next attack after using Decimation Assault or mounted abilities. Furthermore, the additional lifesteal and mana sustain keep Leomord in the fight longer, allowing him to endlessly chase down low-health fleeing targets who are vulnerable to guaranteed critical hits from The Oath Keeper.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Divine Justice: After casting a skill, the next Basic Attack within 3s deals 60% Physical Attack as extra True Damage (1.5s cooldown).

Blade of Despair is the ultimate offense spike for Leomord. Its Despair passive boosts Physical Attack when damaging targets below half health, directly stacking with the guaranteed critical strikes provided by The Oath Keeper. Once completed, casting Phantom Steed and diving into low-health enemies results in instant executions, making him virtually unstoppable when cleaning up chaotic team clashes.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Despair: Dealing damage to non-Minion enemies below 50% HP increases Physical Attack by 25% for 2s (takes effect before the damage is dealt).

Immortality

Situational

Immortality supplies a safety net for Leomord as an aggressive initiator. With the Immortal passive resurrecting him after fatal damage and granting a temporary shield, Leomord gets a second chance to cast Decimation Assault or re-engage with Phantom Steed. This prevents him from being immediately burst down after charging into enemy lines ahead of his team.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Immortal: Revives 2.5s after death, gaining 16% Max HP and a 220-1200 shield (scales with level) that lasts 3s (210s cooldown).

Adapting the build

No build survives every draft. These are the situations where the order above should change.

When taking heavy physical damage during early lane trades

Prioritise completing Warrior Boots before starting your offensive core. The stacked defense from Valor grants Leomord the necessary survivability against aggressive physical EXP Laners, allowing him to safely farm and channel Momentum without being forced out of lane before obtaining Barbiel.

When facing tanky team compositions that stack high defense

Prioritise rushing War Axe directly after your boots. The Fighting Spirit passive grants true damage and stacking spell vamp during continuous mounted attacks from Phantom Steed, helping Leomord melt through bulky frontliners and consistently reduce their health to activate The Oath Keeper.

When your team lacks a primary initiator and you must enter fights first

Consider prioritizing Immortality earlier in the build order after your core damage items. Having the resurrect passive ensures that when you charge in with Phantom Steed to knock back enemies, you can survive the initial enemy crowd control and burst, giving your team time to follow up.
