How to itemise Hayabusa and, more importantly, why each item earns its slot.

Overview

Why this build works on Hayabusa

Hayabusa relies heavily on swift energy management and rapid hit-and-run assassinations centered around Ougi: Shadow Kill and Ninjutsu: Trace of Shadow. Because Ougi: Shadow Kill requires stacks of Shadow Mark to deal maximum damage, Hayabusa needs high physical penetration and movement speed to quickly close distances with Ninjutsu: Quad Shadow and weave in basic attacks. However, his heavy energy reliance and cooldown dependence can leave him vulnerable if an engagement fails. This build solves his cooldown bottlenecks, enhances his single-target burst capability, and grants crucial movement speed to reposition effortlessly between shadows while maintaining enough late-game durability to survive risky dives under enemy towers or during teamfights.

Flame Hunter's Magic Boots

Early

Flame Hunter's Magic Boots provide essential cooldown reduction early on, allowing Hayabusa to frequently cycle Ninjutsu: Phantom Shuriken for wave clear and energy restoration. The extra True Damage against creeps accelerates his jungle clear speed, helping him secure early Turtles. Furthermore, lower cooldowns enable more frequent uses of Ninjutsu: Quad Shadow, giving him the mobility needed to gank lanes effectively and set up early Shadow Mark stacks.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Hunter: After dealing damage to a Creep, deal 25<2|lv 3> + True Damage to the target over 3s (damage is increased by 100% for non-Marksmen heroes).

Hunter Strike is a core spike for Hayabusa. Landing multiple hits from Ninjutsu: Phantom Shuriken or Ougi: Shadow Kill easily triggers the Retribution passive, granting a massive movement speed boost. This allows Hayabusa to stick to escaping targets or retreat safely after executing his combo. The high physical attack and cooldown reduction magnify his skill spam, ensuring Ninjutsu: Quad Shadow is available rapidly during extended skirmishes.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Retribution: Dealing damage to the same enemy hero or creep 5 times in a row grants 50% extra Movement Speed that decays over 3s (8s cooldown).

Blade of the Heptaseas turns Hayabusa into a lethal ambush threat. When teleporting to a phantom using Ninjutsu: Quad Shadow, the Ambush passive empowers his opening basic attack with additional physical damage and a slow effect. This slow makes it nearly impossible for targets to evade Ninjutsu: Phantom Shuriken, guaranteeing all three shurikens hit to max out Ninjutsu: Trace of Shadow stacks before launching Ougi: Shadow Kill.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Ambush: If no damage is taken or dealt within 5s (excluding from Minions or Creeps), the next Basic Attack will deal an additional 160 Physical Damage and slow the target by 40% for 1.5s.

Endless Battle perfectly synergizes with Hayabusa's frequent skill weaving. Casting Ninjutsu: Quad Shadow or Ninjutsu: Phantom Shuriken triggers the Divine Justice passive, dealing extra True Damage on his subsequent basic attack. The added mana and energy sustainability alongside movement speed reinforce his hit-and-run style, while the lifesteal complements his passive spell vamp from Ninjutsu: Phantom Shuriken to keep his health healthy during extended jungle clears.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Divine Justice: After casting a skill, the next Basic Attack within 3s deals 60% Physical Attack as extra True Damage (1.5s cooldown).

Blade of Despair drastically increases Hayabusa's raw burst potential during late-game teamfights. Since Ougi: Shadow Kill deals multiple single-target strikes, reducing an enemy hero below half health triggers the Despair passive mid-ult. This boosts all remaining strikes and extra mark damage, ensuring isolated squishy marksmen or mages are completely eliminated before Hayabusa teleports back to safety using his remaining phantoms.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Despair: Dealing damage to non-Minion enemies below 50% HP increases Physical Attack by 25% for 2s (takes effect before the damage is dealt).

Immortality

Situational

Immortality offers a crucial safety net during high-stakes late-game engagements around the Lord. When Hayabusa dives deep into the enemy backline with Ninjutsu: Quad Shadow to cast Ougi: Shadow Kill, he risks being focused once his ultimate ends. The revival effect allows him to survive lethal counter-attacks, giving his Ninjutsu: Quad Shadow cooldown time to reset so he can instantly dash away to a remaining phantom.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Immortal: Revives 2.5s after death, gaining 16% Max HP and a 220-1200 shield (scales with level) that lasts 3s (210s cooldown).

Adapting the build

No build survives every draft. These are the situations where the order above should change.

When needing maximum burst to eliminate high-priority squishy targets early

Prioritise Blade of the Heptaseas right after Flame Hunter's Magic Boots before Hunter Strike. The instant slow and burst damage from Ambush combined with Ninjutsu: Quad Shadow guarantees early kills on fragile heroes, accelerating your momentum before enemies buy defensive items.

When facing heavy enemy crowd control or high burst during late game dives

Prioritise Immortality earlier, right after Endless Battle, delaying Blade of Despair. This ensures Hayabusa can survive incoming burst when executing Ougi: Shadow Kill inside enemy territory, allowing him enough time to teleport back to a phantom safely.

Item recommendations come from the game's own hero data. The explanations are AI-generated from Hayabusa's ability kit and the items' in-game passives, and are checked automatically against the item list — they never introduce an item the game does not recommend for this hero.
