How to itemise Faramis and, more importantly, why each item earns its slot.

Overview

Why this build works on Faramis

Faramis relies on casting his game-changing ultimate, Nether Realm, during teamfights to grant allies the Specter state and grant extra HP, turning losing engagements into clean wipes. However, his skills demand constant mana and short cooldowns to maximize soul fragment collection from Vicious Retrieval and set up pulls with Shadow Stampede. This build focuses on maximizing cooldown reduction and mana sustainability early on, ensuring Nether Realm is always available for crucial objectives like the Turtle or Lord. After securing core utility, defensive items safeguard Faramis while he dives into the frontlines using Shadow Stampede to drag marked targets into his team's lethal range.

Magic Boots - Conceal

Early

Equipping Magic Boots - Conceal provides Faramis with early cooldown reduction and initial roaming mobility. The Conceal active skill allows him and nearby allies to stealthily position around objectives or gank lanes. This enhanced movement complements Shadow Stampede, enabling Faramis to phase through terrain undetected, apply Nether Mark to unsuspecting enemies, and drag them into allied damage dealers before they can react properly to the initiate.

In-game passive Active Skill - Conceal: Success

Enchanted Talisman satisfies Faramis' heavy mana consumption through Mana Spring, preventing him from returning to base during prolonged skirmishes. More importantly, it grants significant cooldown reduction, allowing him to cycle Ghost Bursters frequently to collect soul fragments via Vicious Retrieval. With his abilities available sooner, Faramis can constantly harass enemies, accumulate stacks to increase his magic power, and keep his team fight capabilities active continuously throughout the mid game.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Mana Spring: Regenerates 15% Max Mana every 10s.

Fleeting Time is essential for Faramis because Timestream reduces the current cooldown of Nether Realm whenever he earns a hero kill or assist. Since Nether Realm alters the outcome of major teamfights by granting the Specter state, having it ready after every clash ensures continuous map pressure. Combining this with Ghost Bursters and Shadow Stampede allows Faramis to secure multiple assists in rapid succession, making his ultimate nearly spammable.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Timestream: Hero kills or assists reduce the Ultimate's current cooldown by 30%.

When facing physical assassins or marksmen, Antique Cuirass provides vital physical durability through Deter, which reduces incoming physical damage when hit by physical enemy skills. Faramis must put himself in danger using Shadow Stampede to mark enemies up close, making him vulnerable to physical burst. Building this item allows him to survive aggressive physical dives long enough to cast Nether Realm and rescue himself and his allies.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Deter: When hit by a skill, reduces the attacker's Physical Damage by 4% for 2s (this effect stacks up to 3 times).

Athena's Shield offers protection against high magic burst damage through Shield, granting immediate magic damage reduction upon taking magic damage from enemy mages. Since Faramis needs to stay close to enemy formations to split damage using Ghost Bursters, he often takes collateral magic fire. Athena's Shield gives him the necessary durability to survive initial spell rotations without immediately popping his ultimate, allowing for better strategic timing.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Shield: Upon taking Magic Damage, gains 25% Magic Damage Reduction for 3s (applied before taking damage). Regains this effect 5s after leaving combat.

Immortality

Situational

Immortality adds an indispensable layer of safety during late-game team fights. Immortal grants a second chance by reviving Faramis after death with a shield and health. This interacts smoothly with Vicious Retrieval's respawn timer reduction and Nether Realm's Specter state. If enemies focus all their damage to eliminate Faramis first, Immortality forces them to waste key abilities while Faramis revives and resets the fight for his team.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Immortal: Revives 2.5s after death, gaining 16% Max HP and a 220-1200 shield (scales with level) that lasts 3s (210s cooldown).

Adapting the build

No build survives every draft. These are the situations where the order above should change.

Against explosive physical burst damage

Prioritize Antique Cuirass immediately after your core cooldown items. Because Faramis must use Shadow Stampede to wade into the enemy line and apply Nether Mark, physical burst can eliminate him before he casts Nether Realm. Delaying secondary magic defense items ensures you survive physical skill rotations while initiating fights.

Against heavy magic burst teams

Build Athena's Shield right after completing Fleeting Time. When enemy mages possess high burst damage, Faramis risks dying instantly while attempting to gather soul fragments with Ghost Bursters or set up Nether Realm. Delaying physical defense in favor of early magic reduction keeps Faramis alive long enough to provide his team protection.

When the enemy team prioritizes focusing you in late-game fights

Prioritize Immortality before secondary defensive items like Athena's Shield or Antique Cuirass. If the enemy team saves major crowd control and ultimate abilities specifically to burst Faramis before he casts Nether Realm, the revive passive from Immortal ensures he can survive the initial collapse and activate his realm to turn the tide.
