How to itemise Belerick and, more importantly, why each item earns its slot.

Overview

Why this build works on Belerick

Belerick thrives on absorbing damage to trigger his passive, Deadly Thorns, while crowd-controlling enemies using Ancient Seed and Wrath of Dryad. Because Deadly Thorns amplifies HP gained from equipment and emblems, building maximum health and passive damage reflection is paramount. This build solves Belerick's early mana sustainability issues while converting his massive health pool into offensive threat and survivability. By combining taunts with damage reflection, Belerick forces physical attackers to destroy themselves against him. Meanwhile, enhanced healing synergizes with Nature's Strike to keep him alive during extended team fights around map objectives like the Turtle and Lord.

Item by item

Demon Boots

Early

Demon Boots addresses Belerick's constant mana expenditure during early roaming and lane harassing. Consistently casting Ancient Seed for wave clear or taunting opponents drains his mana pool quickly. The mana restored upon minion kills or assists ensures Belerick stays on the map longer without returning to base, allowing him to maintain continuous pressure alongside his gold laner or jungler.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Mysticism: Getting a kill or assist on an enemy Minion will restore 4% Mana. (An assist occurs when a Minion dies within 2s after taking damage from the hero.)

Cursed Helmet turns Belerick into a persistent damage threat while granting vital extra HP. Since Deadly Thorns increases bonus HP gained from equipment, this item substantially boosts his survivability. The continuous magic damage burn complements his ultimate, Wrath of Dryad, hurting enemies trapped in his taunt. It also accelerates his wave clearing alongside Ancient Seed, allowing Belerick to roam between lanes faster.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Burning Soul: Deals Magic Damage equal to 0.6% of the hero's Max HP per second to nearby enemies. This damage is increased by 140% to 350% against creeps and minions (scales with level).

Blade Armor creates lethal synergy with Belerick's taunt mechanics from Ancient Seed and Wrath of Dryad. When forcing physical damage dealers to attack him, this item reflects a portion of incoming basic attack damage back to the attacker while slowing them. Combined with the passive retaliation of Deadly Thorns, Belerick transforms into a deadly punisher against enemy marksmen and physical assassins.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Bladed Armor: When struck by a Basic Attack, deals Physical Damage equal to 30% of the incoming damage (calculated before Damage Reduction) plus 20% of the hero's Physical Defense to the attacker and slows them by 15% for 1s.

Thunder Belt amplifies Belerick's crowd control and durability. After casting Nature's Strike, Belerick's enhanced basic attack deals bonus true damage that scales with his extra HP while applying an additional slow. This lets Belerick stick to targets after initiating with his ultimate. Furthermore, the bonus HP granted by the item is enhanced by Deadly Thorns, making Belerick even tankier in mid-game skirmishes.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Thunderbolt: After casting a skill, the next Basic Attack within 3s deals 50 plus 5% of the hero's extra HP as extra True Damage to the target and enemies around them and slows them by 40%-80% (scales with the hero's extra HP) for 1s (1.5s cooldown).

Oracle

Late

Oracle directly enhances Belerick's sustain by boosting the HP recovery on Nature's Strike. Because Deadly Thorns continuously reduces the cooldown of Nature's Strike whenever Belerick takes damage, he can cast his second skill repeatedly in sustained team fights. The increased healing received ensures Belerick remains on the front line longer, absorbing damage and continuously triggering passive thorn retaliation against the enemy team.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Bless: Received Shield and HP Regen effects are increased by 30%.

Twilight Armor

Situational

Twilight Armor serves as Belerick's primary defense against massive burst damage from single hits. When enemies inflict high damage instances, the excess damage is significantly reduced based on Belerick's max HP. Since Belerick naturally accumulates massive health through Deadly Thorns, this item prevents him from being deleted instantly by burst heroes, giving him time to initiate with Wrath of Dryad.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Twilight: Upon taking more than 800 damage in a single instance, the excess damage beyond that amount is reduced by 300 + 15% of Max HP. This effect has a 5s cooldown.

Adapting the build

No build survives every draft. These are the situations where the order above should change.

Against basic attack heavy physical comps

Rush Blade Armor immediately after completing your initial boot choice. Since physical marksmen rely heavily on basic attacks, early Blade Armor combined with Belerick's taunts from Ancient Seed and Wrath of Dryad will force them to take reflected damage alongside Deadly Thorns, neutralizing their power spike before major team fights around the Turtle.

When sustained healing and mobility are needed

Prioritize Oracle earlier in the build order after your core armor item. Enhancing the HP recovery from Nature's Strike allows Belerick to sustain through prolonged engagements. Frequent Deadly Thorns triggers will constantly reset Nature's Strike, letting him spam his heal and movement speed buff to repeatedly dive and taunt priority targets.

Facing high burst damage threats

Build Twilight Armor right after your core defense items rather than holding it for late game. The flat burst damage mitigation scales directly off your maximum health pool. Since Deadly Thorns boosts equipment health, Twilight Armor ensures Belerick survives explosive damage combos from enemy assassins, allowing him to counter-initiate with his ultimate.

Item recommendations come from the game's own hero data. The explanations are AI-generated from Belerick's ability kit and the items' in-game passives, and are checked automatically against the item list — they never introduce an item the game does not recommend for this hero.
