How to itemise Alpha and, more importantly, why each item earns its slot.

Overview

Why this build works on Alpha

Alpha relies on short skill cooldowns to summon Beta and trigger his passive, Beta, Advance!, which deals True Damage and slows targets. However, Alpha must dive directly into teamfights using Spear of Alpha and maintain close range to land Force Swing for sustain. Without defensive stats and heavy physical attack, he risks being burst down before Beta can stack locks or sustain through Force Swing's healing. This build addresses Alpha's high skill dependency and close-combat vulnerability by prioritizing sustain through Spell Vamp, raw Physical Attack to scale Beta's True Damage, and defensive layering so he can continuously trigger Rotary Impact and initiate fights safely.

Build order

  1. 1 Warrior Boots
  2. 2 War Axe
  3. 3 Bloodlust Axe
  4. 4 Blade of Despair
  5. 5 Queen's Wings
  6. 6 Immortality

Item by item

Buying Warrior Boots early grants essential movement speed to position for Rotary Impact while giving Physical Defense through its passive, Valor. Since Alpha trades heavily in the EXP Lane using Force Swing, stacking defense when taking physical damage prevents him from being bullied early on. This movement speed also helps Alpha land his skills smoothly, giving him the durability needed to survive aggressive early trades before securing sustain items.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Valor: Gain 4 extra Physical Defense for 3s when taking Physical Damage, up to 20.

War Axe

Core

War Axe is a core power spike for Alpha because Fighting Spirit grants stacking Physical Attack and Spell Vamp during prolonged combat. As Alpha spams Rotary Impact and Force Swing, he easily maintains maximum stacks. At full stacks, the extra True Damage amps the True Damage already delivered by Beta, Advance!. This synergizes perfectly with Spear of Alpha, enabling Alpha to melt durable targets while sustaining through incoming damage.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Fighting Spirit: Dealing damage grants 12 extra Physical Attack and 2% extra Spell Vamp per second for 4s, up to 6 stacks. Deal 10% extra True Damage according to Base Damage at full stacks.####[C8This effect is reduced to 50% for Marksmen, Mages, and Supports.]

Bloodlust Axe

Core

Bloodlust Axe provides crucial cooldown reduction and massive Spell Vamp to power Alpha's durability. Force Swing restores HP based on enemies hit, and combining that heal with Spell Vamp turns Alpha into a frontline drain tank. With reduced cooldowns, Alpha can cast Rotary Impact and Force Swing far more frequently, ensuring Beta continuously applies Lock On marks to trigger constant True Damage bursts and slow effects during prolonged teamfights.

Blade of Despair drastically boosts Alpha's Physical Attack, directly increasing the damage of Force Swing, Spear of Alpha, and the Extra Physical Attack scaling on Beta, Advance!. Its passive, Despair, increases Physical Attack when damaging low HP targets, allowing Alpha to execute low health enemies instantly after landing Spear of Alpha. Once completed, Alpha transitions from a sustain fighter into a deadly burst threat capable of deleting squishy targets.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Despair: Dealing damage to non-Minion enemies below 50% HP increases Physical Attack by 25% for 2s (takes effect before the damage is dealt).

Queen's Wings provides critical damage reduction and massive additional Spell Vamp when Alpha drops below low HP via Demonize. Because Alpha enters the heart of fights with Spear of Alpha, he often takes focused damage. When Demonize activates, the massive Spell Vamp boost combines with Force Swing to heal Alpha back to full health almost instantly, turning dangerous low-health situations into game-winning turnarounds during mid to late game objective fights.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Demonize: When HP drops below 40%, gains 20% Damage Reduction and 35% extra Spell Vamp for 5s (60s cooldown).

Immortality grants a vital second chance in late game teamfights through its Immortal revive passive. As Alpha initiates engagements using Spear of Alpha, he is vulnerable to being focused down by the enemy team. Immortality guarantees he can resurrect with a shield, giving him immediate time to cast Force Swing and Rotary Impact to regain health via Spell Vamp and continue fighting alongside Beta rather than dying outright.

In-game passive Unique Passive - Immortal: Revives 2.5s after death, gaining 16% Max HP and a 220-1200 shield (scales with level) that lasts 3s (210s cooldown).

Adapting the build

No build survives every draft. These are the situations where the order above should change.

Against heavy physical damage in the early lane phase

Prioritize finishing Warrior Boots first before completing War Axe. The extra Physical Defense gained from taking physical damage via Valor allows Alpha to survive aggressive trades against physical EXP laners, letting him comfortably farm and hit targets with Force Swing until he acquires his core offensive items.

When requiring maximum teamfight sustain during objective fights

Rush Bloodlust Axe immediately after War Axe before building Blade of Despair. Combining the Spell Vamp from both items greatly amplifies the healing from Force Swing, allowing Alpha to dive into teamfights with Spear of Alpha during Turtle and Lord contests without risking getting bursted down quickly.

When acting as the primary teamfight initiator

Prioritize purchasing Queen's Wings before Blade of Despair. The damage reduction and extra Spell Vamp from Demonize allow Alpha to survive the initial burst of incoming damage after leaping in with Spear of Alpha, ensuring he stays alive long enough to sustain with Force Swing and trigger Beta, Advance!.
